Hi Definition Projection, which means the best viewing experience for the filmgoer, will debut officially at the Roxy Theater just in time for Montana CINE International. For the award-winning film, CRASH: A Tale of Two Species, shot in Hi Def, this will mean brilliant images and vivid color that creates a more dynamic viewing experience. As a result of a grant from the MJ Murdock Charitable Trust as well as several individual donors, the International Wildlife Media Center at the Roxy Theater has been able to equip one of the three individual theaters at the Roxy with Hi Def Projection. This format is the wave of the future and for our two film festivals, IWFF in the spring and Montana CINE in the fall, this was a critical element to add to our projection capabilities. As more and more films are made in HD, the best viewing experience comes from watching a film in the format in which it was produced. Historic Restoration of the Roxy Theater begins, 2007 The International Wildlife Media Center received a $50,000 top off grant from M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust for exterior renovation/restoration and high-definition capabilities! In 2002, the International Wildlife Media Center took a major step in its development by campaigning to purchase the theater and breathe new life into it. Today, the Roxy's three theaters can be rented by the general public for special events, such as family gatherings, slideshows with friends or professional colleagues, artisitic performances, lectures and art exhibits. The IWMC stages its own events here; serving as an art gallery stop, wildlife film matinees for all ages throughout the year, special speaker/film events, and other gatherings. As of December 2007, the IWMC is just $45,000 shy of our goal to purchase the Roxy. But thanks to the community's donations to our Save the Roxy Campaign and to those who rent the facilities and attend events here, we expect to become full owners of this magnificent building in the near future! The Roxy, located at 718 S. Higgins Ave. in Missoula, Montana is typically open weekdays, 9am - 5pm. Or, you can call us for an appointment to tour the facility.
